Ballymena now just one win away from post-split top six finish

Ballymena are in hot pursuit of claiming a top-six finish before the Danske Bank Premiership split.

Last night they beat their nearest rivals, Glentoran, 2-1 in what was effectively a six-pointer at the Oval.

It means David Jeffrey's side need just three more points to clinch sixth spot.

They will have the chance to do this on Monday when they play bottom side Ballinamallard in a re-arranged fixture.

The Mallards are fighting for their lives at the moment – and last night showed their mettle by drawing 2-2 with Linfield.

Cliftonville are now just two points behind the Blues after a 3-0 win over Ards.

Glenavon stay third despite a 3-2 defeat to Dungannon Swifts at Stangmore Park.

Finally, Coleraine returned to the top of the table, one point ahead of Crusaders, who play on Monday, after a 3-2 victory over Carrick
