WATCH: Matthew Tipton says anything other than Ports promotion will be 'failure'
Last updated 11th Jan 2019
Portadown manager Matthew Tipton believes the club must achieve promotion from the Championship, otherwise this season will be considered a failure.
The club are currently sitting third with the split coming later this month.
Due to the significant lead held by Larne, it looks like the Ports' only way back to the Premiership will be via the play-offs.
"There's no point in me saying otherwise, because promotion was the target we set at the start of the season. If we fail, I'll be disappointed. But it'll renew our vigour for next season, to make sure we do get promoted," said Tipton.
Tipton is a guest on our Football Show, which can be viewed below, alongside the man who replaced him at Warrenpoint Town, Stephen McDonell.
"I left Warrenpoint when we were in a comfortable position, and thankfully Stevie's taken the baton and he's done really well because it's a good club and they deserve to be in the Premiership. But the big attraction to me about Portadown was the fact that we could kick on with the fantastic youth set-up there," said Tipton.
Portadown's next fixture in the Championship is a trip to Ballyclare Comrades on Saturday the 12th of January.
