Gibbes targets Ulster improvement in Treviso
New Ulster head coach Jono Gibbes believes there's more to come from the squad, as they aim to build on last week's win.
The province opened their Pro14 campaign hosting southern hemisphere newcomers Cheetahs in Belfast in a lively game that ended 42-19 in favour of Ulster.
"It was certainly not perfect, but it's the first game and over the course of the 80 minutes, there are lots of things we need to continue to work hard on," said Gibbes.
"But i think for us, as a coaching team, the little glimmers of teamwork coming through were the positives."
Ulster go to Italy for the season's first away game this weekend to face Treviso.
Gibbes says it's too early in the season to think about long-term goals, but added that he's keen to work with the squad.
"There's talent in the group and there are guys with varying degrees of international experience," he said.
"So there are lots of individual pieces - but it's about trying to mould that and put it all together and channel it into one direction and one force."
Having enjoyed success with Leinster and Clermont Auvergne, Gibbes knows Ulster presents a different challenge, with the province suffering through a barren spell without silverware.
"Les Kiss didn't really 'sell it' at such. We just talked about where I wanted to go and where he wanted to take Ulster and to continue his vision. For me it all aligned."
