Yellow rain warning issued as unsettled weather hits NI this weekend
Heavy rain, strong winds, and marked temperature contrasts are expected to hit Northern Ireland this weekend.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning from 12pm on Saturday to 3am on Sunday.
Met Office Chief Meteorologist, Paul Gundersen, said: “A deep area of low pressure is bringing heavy rain to Wales, Northern Ireland and western Scotland today as well as strong winds to the far north of Scotland at first.

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist, Tom Crabtree, said: “Through this period 20-40 mm of rain is expected to fall widely, with some locations perhaps seeing 60-100 mm, with much of this total falling in just a few hours.
"From mid-Saturday onwards, increasingly strong gusty winds and perhaps some thunder will also accompany the rainfall, further increasing the risk of disruption."

🌧️ Where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services
🌧️ Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures

Today: This morning will be dry with some brightness. Thickening cloud will bring outbreaks of rain from the southwest during this afternoon, becoming drier in the west later. Maximum temperature 18 °C.
Tonight: Outbreaks of rain across the east will die out this evening. Then the rest of the night will be dry with some lengthy clear periods. Minimum temperature 10 °C.
Friday: Chance of a little rain across the far southeast at first otherwise it will be dry with some brightness. Maximum temperature 17 °C.
Outlook for Saturday to Monday: Cloudy on Saturday with rain likely across the east, becoming windy later. A colder day on Sunday with showers. Bright with fewer showers on Monday.
