Multiple Met Office yellow severe weather warnings for ice and snow have been issued for the coming days, covering Northern Ireland, and parts of Scotland and Wales.

A yellow weather warning will be in place across Northern Ireland from midnight to 12noon Wednesday 19th.

According to the Met Office, frequent wintry showers will feed inland through Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning across Northern Ireland, with strong northerly winds blowing showers well inland.

Whilst little to no snow accumulations are expected at low levels, 1-3 cm is likely over higher ground, and perhaps very locally up to 5 cm. This may affect routes such as the Glenshane Pass and Coleraine Mountain road.

Ice will be likely on untreated surfaces, whilst hail and lightning will be additional hazards.

Met Office Chief Forecaster Neil Armstrong said: “Cold Arctic air from the north is firmly in charge of the UK’s weather, bringing the first notable cold snap of this autumn and giving an early taste of winter weather.

"Wintry showers will affect areas exposed to the brisk northerly wind, in particular Northern Ireland, southwest Wales, southwest England, northeast England and across the northern half of Scotland.

“Whilst not all places will see lying snow, where showers are most frequent accumulations of 2-5 cm will be possible."
