Snow could make a return this week as temperatures set to plummet 🥶☃️
It is set to turn much colder
Last updated 7th Feb 2021
A week-long cold snap is expected to chill Northern Ireland as easterly winds are set to bring a blast of Siberian air from Scandanavia towards us.
Temperatures will drop close to freezing during the day and well below that overnight, when there will be sharp widespread frosts and the risk of ice.
Scattered snow showers blowing in from the Irish Sea may cause minor travel disruption due to snow and ice.
A yellow weather warning has been issued which comes into effect from 4pm Tuesday for counties Armagh, Antrim and Down.
The Met Office long-range weather forecast isn't ruling out the possibility of widespread snow later in the week as a more organised band of snow showers could develop.
"It will feel very cold, especially in brisk easterly winds with overnight frosts. Wintry showers could feed in from the Irish sea. Any organised areas of cloud and precipitation arriving from the southwest could result in disruptive snow where they bump into cold air. Patches of ice and other disruptive wintry hazards remain a possibility for all areas."
Exact locations for the snow and how much will accumulate is still uncertain at this stage.
One thing is for certain - it is set to be chillier than usual heading into mid-February.
