Met Office forecasting wintry showers with snow across the hills in Northern Ireland today

Northern Ireland is set experience one last taste of winter this week with a mixture of sleet, hail and hill snow in the forecast.

According to forecasters we might not out be out of the woods with winter just yet - as northerly winds develop bringing showers, some of these turning wintry later today.

According to the Met Office; "Tuesday will start bright with sunny spells, and after a dry start in the east, heavy showers, turning to sleet and snow and thundery in west develop more widely through the day. Clear spells and further showers tonight, some wintry and giving some snowfalls on high ground"

With night time temperatures expected to fall below zero, drivers will have to brace themselves for frost in the mornings - worth getting the de-icer back out.

There is some good news in the long-range forecast with the Met Office predicting more spring-like weather in the coming weeks.

"It will gradually become more settled through April, as it turns more settled temperatures may become warmer in places, becoming rather warm towards the end of the month."

NORTHERN IRELAND FOUR DAY FORECAST

Tuesday - Bright start, showers, perhaps wintry and thundery developing more widely through the day. High 9°C / Low 1°C

Wednesday - Sunny intervals and further showers, some on the wintry side at first. Strong northwesterly winds. High 8°C / Low -1°C

Thursday - Frequent showers on Thursday. High 9°C / Low 5°C

Friday/Weekend - Mainly dry with some bright or sunny intervals, feeling warmer.
