Met Office issues yellow warning for snow and ice

Another brief cold snap is expected to hit Northern Ireland this week.

The Met Office has issued a yellow ‘be aware’ weather warning.

Snow showers are expected to develop through Monday night lasting through rush hour Tuesday. These, combined with strong winds could lead to locally very poor travel conditions

A statement on the Met Office website says: "A spell of rain, quickly turning to sleet and snow, will move southeast on Monday evening. Expect longer journey times by road, bus and rail with the potential for disruption. As rain, sleet and snow clears overnight, ice may form on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths."

"Snow is likely to be confined to hills above 100 metres over Northern Ireland, but to low levels elsewhere. Away from coasts, 1-3 cm of snow is possible with up to 5 cm above 200 metres. "

The main snow warning is in place from 20:00 Monday to 15:00 Tuesday.

Further ice and snow warnings are in place through until 10:00 Wednesday morning.
