Met Office issues yellow warning for snow and ice for Friday evening
Risk of further snow showers across eastern counties tonight ❄️🌨️☃️🏔️
Last updated 1st Feb 2019
A weather warning for snow and ice has been issued for a large swathe of Northern Ireland this evening with sub-zero temperatures and wintry showers forecast.
With temperatures expected to fall to as low as -4°C in rural areas tonight, forecasters say there is likely to be a "widespread" frost on Saturday morning with a yellow "be aware" ice warning in place across all counties.
A few snow showers are likely to drift in, mainly after dark and mostly for northern, central and eastern areas of the province.
According to the Met Office; "Snow showers will also start to affect parts of the western UK during Friday evening and night. Accumulations will be much smaller and patchier in nature. With temperatures also falling below freezing Friday late afternoon and evening, there will be some icy stretches, especially on untreated surfaces."
Expect ice on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.
The warning comes into effect from 13:00 Friday lasting through until 11:00 Saturday
There could be additional disruption on Sunday as a second Atlantic low pressure system develops tracking east bringing with it further sleet and hill snow. Details remain uncertain at this stage.
Thankfully it is looking like there will be a return to slightly milder conditions next week.
