Heavy rainfall could batter much of Northern Ireland this weekend, the Met Office has said.

Forecasters have issued a yellow severe weather warning as torrential rain is likely to develop during Saturday and Sunday across counties Antrim, Down, Tyrone & Derry~Londonderry.

"An area of rain is expected to move slowly and erratically northwestwards across parts of the UK on Saturday and Sunday, and while some places within the warning area may see very little others could see several hours of heavy rain. Accumulations of 40-60mm are possible, with perhaps as much as 80-100mm in places, especially over high ground."

The Met Office's weather warning comes into affect from 09:00 Saturday lasting through until 15:00 Sunday.

"Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures"

"Where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services"

"There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings"

There is some good news though, as more settled conditions are set to move in with less showery weather forecast for the beginning of next week.
