Northern Ireland is set experience it's first real taste of winter with a mixture of sleet, hail and hill snow in the forecast overnight.

According to forecasters we can expect a brief cold snap with some wintry showers, settling especially over higher ground.

The Met Office says; "A rainband crossing from the west on Sunday night will bring a mixture of wintry showers, these heaviest in the northwest. Monday and Tuesday will start unsettled with strong winds and showers turning wintry to relatively low levels."

With night time temperatures expected to fall close to zero, drivers will have to brace themselves for black-ice in the mornings - worth getting the de-icer back out.

The Northern Ireland Ice Warning comes into effect from 0100 lasting through until 1000 Monday.

Icy patches developing overnight could cause some travel disruption during Monday morning's commute.

It's worth pointing out that snow showers will be hit and miss.
