Heavy rain warning issued for Northern Ireland this weekend
Another week…another weather warning! ⚠️
Last updated 10th Aug 2023
You know the phrase - four seasons in one day - well that's what we've got coming up in the next few days.
Heavy rain is expected to set in through this evening and into tomorrow across Northern Ireland.
The Met Office have issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain, between 8pm on Thursday 10th and 2am on Friday 11th August.
According to the Met Office: “Rain is expected to reach the west of Northern Ireland this evening, before continuing generally northeast across the rest of the country tonight, clearing the north coast during the early hours of Friday.”
Rain may become heavy for a time, particularly for parts of eastern Derry and Tyrone, Antrim (including the Belfast area), Armagh and Down.
It’s expected that 10-15 mm of rain might fall in just a few hours, with 20-30 mm possible locally.
Given the wet weather recently, some localised flooding is possible, thunder might also occur.
What to expect
🌧️ Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer
🌧️ Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer
🌧️ Some interruption to power supplies and other services likely
🌧️ Flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely
