The Northern Lights are set illuminate parts of Northern Ireland (if we are lucky) this evening.

An increase in solar winds triggered by a solar flare on the sun means we could be in for a treat through Thursday night and early Friday morning

They were last visible back in November - if you missed it, this could be another great opportunity.

Clear skies are forecast overnight.

The best areas to witness the celestial spectacular include Derry~Londonderry, Coleraine, Portrush, Portstewart and much of the north Antrim coast.

It's not unusual for the Aurora Borelais to be visible further south across the province. Last year Bangor and Donaghadee was treated to a dazzling display.

Seeing the Northern Lights has become a bucket list favourite.

To increase your chances of spotting them you should be somewhere with as little light pollution as possible - idealy out of towns and cities and away from streetlights.

Good luck! Remember to tweet us your pictures and videos to @coolfm.
