The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain across most parts of Northern Ireland today.

Early showers, some heavy, over Northern Ireland will give way to some more persistent rain, again heavy and perhaps thundery at times, later this morning and afternoon.

The yellow weather warning comes into affect from 12pm and 9pm today (Sunday 24th July).

Over Northern Ireland 10-20 mm of rain is likely to fall in some places.

Heavy rainfall last night has forced part of the Emergency Department at Altnagelvin Hospital in Londonderry to close.

What to expect:

  • Flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely
  • Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer
  • Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer
  • Some interruption to power supplies and other services likely

What to do in a flood:

To report flooding problems on roads or burst water mains and blocked drains call Northern Ireland flooding incident line: 0300 2000 100.

This is a non-emergency number, if you are in danger, call 999.
