With last night’s heavy snowfall across most parts of Northern Ireland, there are several road closures and travel issues in place today.

Whilst falling snow will clear from the south and east of the warning area in the next few hours, lying snow and ice will likely continue to be a hazard through the rest of this morning.

Trafficwatch NI has advised that salting of the main roads has been undertaken through the night and this morning.

A yellow weather warning remains in place until 2pm today.

Road users are advised to exercise caution when travelling, particularly when driving on untreated roads.

PSNI Newry, Mourne and Down tweeted: "Only venture out this morning if you really must. Snow continues across the province & freezing temperatures make things worse.

"If you must travel, clear your car properly of snow and ice, leave extra time for your journey & SLOW down!"

Translink have warned of a number of service disruptions across NI and have apologised for any inconvenience this may cause. The team will be tweeting out any service changes throughout the day.

If you're catching a flight today from either Belfast City Airport or Belfast International Airport there be some disruption to flights.

Airfield teams are working to keep the runways open and passengers moving, best to monitor your flight information or contact your airline for updates.

Met Office Chief Meteorologist Jason Kelly commented: “Ice will be a continuing hazard for many in the forecast period, with very low overnight temperatures likely to exacerbate continued likely travel disruption.”

Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) have said a number of homes are without power due to severe weather conditions causing damage to the network.
