As the war in Ukraine escalates, charities and organisations across Northern Ireland are opening their doors for local donations to help those suffering.

Global charities including Unicef, The British Red Cross and Save the Children have teams in Ukraine and neighbouring countries supplying much-needed food, medicine, clothing and shelter.

Northern Ireland’s Department of Health has vowed to donate medical supplies to Ukraine.

Speaking yesterday, Health Minister Robin Swann said: “As the scenes in Ukraine unfold it is difficult to comprehend the impact on the people living there. Across the UK, we have been looking at what assistance might be provided to help ease the pain and suffering being felt at this time. It is imperative that we as a nation help in some way and that is why I intend to dispatch medical supplies as soon as practicably possible.”

Local charities, churches and organisations have set up drop-off donation locations to help support those in need.
