Vigil happening for murder victim Alyson Nelson
It is due to take place in Whitehead this evening
A vigil and minute silence for Alyson Nelson, the 64-year-old woman was who fatally stabbed in Co. Antrim, is happening in Whitehead this evening (Saturday 23rd).
One week ago, today police attended the Victoria Avenue area where Alyson was found fatally stabbed.
Following her tragic death, the Harbour Faith Community have organised the event happening at 6pm on the corner of Victoria Avenue and Edward Road.
In a statement the group said her grieving family have been left to “pick up the pieces and a stunned local community is reeling with shock.”
Shortly after 6pm a walk to the nearby promenade is due to happen, where a moment's silence in memory of Alyson will take place.
The group said for those who wish to, they will then be invited to tie a white ribbon to the railings in support of ending violence against women.
Eco friendly ribbon will be provided.
Those who attend will then make the journey back to Victoria Avenue for some closing words.
Following this St Patrick's church will be open for anyone wishing to sign a book of condolence or to spend some time in quiet reflection.
The group has asked for people not to bring along balloons or lanterns and to be considerate of residents.
