Vaping products set to be banned to under 18s in Republic of Ireland
The Irish Minister for Health Simon Harris TD is planning to change the rules on how vaping products are used and sold in in the Republic of Ireland.
The Public Health (Tobacco and Nicotine Inhaling Products) Bill 2019, which has already been approved by Cabinet – and will now be read by the Irish Parliament.
The sale of vapes will also be removed from self-service machines and mobile premises, such as tents at festivals.
In addition, advertisements for e-cigarettes will be prohibited on public transport, in cinemas and near schools.
Minister Donnelly said:
“These measures are designed to protect our children and young people from starting to vape. We recognise that nicotine is a highly addictive drug, and we are acting today to make these products less accessible to our young people and to remove the advertising for these products from our children’s everyday lives.”
It has now been approved by Ministers, which means it will now go TDs and Senators in the Oireachtas for approval.
The legislation is expected to be finalised by the end of the year.
