A Co Antrim doctor has helped create a device that he is hoping will tackle an obesity epidemic.

Jason McKeown, from Portglenone, has been developing special headset technology with Belfast-based company Neurovalens.

The ‘Modius’ device works by sending electrical pulses to stimulate the brain into changing metabolism rates, appetite and fat storage.

And it is hoped the device will revolutionise the weight-loss industry.

Obesity is a growing problem in Northern Ireland where surveys have shown six in 10 adults are obese.

Dr McKeown added: “Some people seem to be able to eat everything and stay nice and lean whereas others seem to eat tiny little meals and yet can balloon in size.

“This is absolutely another tool in the arsenal of trying to prevent weight gain

“For a long time it has been know that there is one area in particular that if you could stimulate would actually significantly reduce your body fat.

“We have simplified this right down into a little headset which is controlled by an App and whenever you actually activate the device it sends a signal into a deeper part of your brain giving the body a signal to reduce body fat.
