US firm to build £30m hotel on North Coast
US developers are putting forward plans for a £30m hotel overlooking the Royal Portrush Golf Club.
Causeway Coast Developments Ltd hope the 120-bedroom resort would be open in time for when The Open golf tournament returns in 2019.
Architect Richard Hunter said: "This project has unbelievable potential to capture and retain high-spending visitors to Royal Portrush and the other links courses on the North Coast.''
The company said that the project has the potential to bring 250 new tourism and hospitality jobs to the area.
Planning proposals will be put forward in September for the 10-acres site that overlooks the golf course and looks towards the Giant's Causeway.
The man who owns the overall parent company ARC, is Gavin Boyd, originally from Kilrea.
He now works from the firm's base of operations in Texas.
"We have been greatly heartened by the positive response so far from the various agencies and obviously we are keen to deal with the planning process as quickly as possible before moving to the next stage.
"Tourism is the main industry on the North Coast and I believe it is absolutely vital and essential that it continues to develop and improve with top quality hotel accommodation, especially with so many visitors coming here from all over the world."
A community consultation will also be carried out in Portrush next month where the public will get a chance to see the developer's plans.
