Ulster end losing streak with home win over Edinburgh
The Pro 12 clash at the Kingspan saw the side secure a bonus point 24-18 victory.
The Scottish side previously came away with a win in November last year making for a tense start for Ulster.
Edinburgh opened well with an early try from Magnus Bradbury putting them ahead after just two minutes. But tries from Darren Cave, Jacob Stockdale, Louis Ludik and Paul Marshall, all within a 22 minute period led Ulster to victory.
Marcell Coetzee finally made his first Ulster appearance, a year after signing for the club. His debut was delayed due to a knee injury.
The Springbok was praised by the province’s director of rugby Les Kiss after contributing to their first win of 2017.
Charles Piutau was also commended by Kiss after his performance saw him earn man of the match. The Kiwi didn’t finish the game however and came off after 49 minutes with a leg injury.
It is hoped he will recover in time for Ulster’s clash with Glasgow at home next weekend. There’s also a question mark over Darren Cave and Alan O’Connor for Saturday after they suffered blows in the game.
Despite the bonus point win, Les Kiss expressed concerns at the precarious second half with Ulster failing to score, allowing Glasgow to come dangerously close within eight points.
Ulster held on though securing five points with the win meaning they remain in sixth place, five points behind next weekend’s opponents.
