It'll be a birthday like no other for the UK's oldest triplets tomorrow.

Primrose, Marigold, and Iris are turning 87.

They were born on Easter Sunday in 1933.

The sisters, who are all named after spring flowers, have spent their adult lives in Northern Ireland after moving here from England when they were children.

The trio won't be able to celebrate together this year because of lockdown but Primrose says she’s still determined to enjoy the day in style.

“My daughter and her husband I believe are bringing in some kind of celebration, but I won’t see them or touch them.”

“I’m going to have the table set with decent crockery and get myself dollied up a bit”.

Usually the sisters would go out for a meal together or spend the day with family.

Iris says although they can’t do that this year, the telephone is keeping them connected.

“Both friends and family are on all the time, we ring each other and say, “Are you watching this, or doing that?””

“So we really are watching things together although we’re not physically together”

Meanwhile, Marigold says they’re not dwelling on missing out on a big celebration too much.

“The main thing is we’re all still here. We think of the past with lovely happy memories, and we’ve got something to look forward to... to see what happens next.”

“With each other whatever happens, we all join together and pull each other through, which I think is what sisters are all about”
