North West 200: two riders taken to hospital after crash

It happened during the opening practice sessions at the famous north coast event

Two North West 200 riders had to be taken to hospital after crashing during the opening practice sessions yesterday (Wednesday).

The incident happened at Mill Road roundabout just six minutes into the Supersport qualifying sessions.

One of the riders was transferred to hospital by air ambulance.

In a statement on X, the North West 200 organisers said a course medical team attended the scene.

Earlier, the session was red flagged twice because of oil spills on the sections of the road between station corner and university corner and the Ballysally roundabout.

Practices sessions are continue this morning (Thursday) with the opening races scheduled for tonight.

Roads will be closed from 9am.
