148 incidents were reported during 24 hours as Storm Erik wreaked havoc across Northern Ireland on Friday night.

A Met Office warning for strong winds and heavy rain was in place until 1500 on Saturday but has been cancelled as the gusts begin to ease.

A roads service media report said:

"Road users are advised to exercise caution when travelling this morning (Saturday.)

"Debris and flooding can be expected on roads as a result of storm Erik and additional care should be taken especially by early traffic.

"148 high priority incidents were received over the past 24 hours.

"Maintenance squads have worked throughout the night clearing these incidents and the clear up operation will continue today as required."

Public transport has been affected with many bus and rail services disrupted.

In a statement a spokesperson for Translink said:

"Passengers are advised to allow extra time for their journey...and to keep up to date with timetable information through our social media channels or our journey planner.

"We are liaising with the Met Office and other organisations to enable us to make informed decisions.

"Contingency arrangements are in place both to maintain rail services, including chainsaw crews and other resources.

"Bus services may also face disruption or diversion if roads are blocked or impassable.

"We will be keeping our customers informed and we would ask for patience and understanding as we work to maintain our services."

Some sporting fixtures were also impacted.

One Irish league game between Glentoran and Warrenpoint Town was in doubt due to heavy rain and flooding but an early morning pitch inspection confirmed the game is going ahead.

Morning ferry services to Rathlin island were also cancelled but may resume in the afternoon.

Passengers are advised to check before travelling.

Rathlin Island Ferry service said:

"All morning sailings are cancelled today due to ongoing poor sea conditions.

"We may have an afternoon sailing suitable for anyone staying on the island overnight but this will not be known until after 2pm so anyone due to travel should contact us direct."

Updates can also be found on the services social media platforms.
