The Open returns to Northern Ireland for the first time in 68 years this week

The 148th Open will be played at Royal Portrush Golf Club from Thursday 18th July until Sunday 21st July 2019.

It is anticipated that there will be a high number of spectators attending throughout the week. To minimise road traffic congestion, the organisers of The Open are asking visitors to consider the use of public transport, which will be significantly enhanced for travel convenience. There will be no car parking available at Royal Portrush Golf Club or in the immediate area. All public parking will be provided at managed Park and Ride sites.

Public Transport

A wide range of bus, coach and train services are available for spectators to reach all The Open action. Trains to Portrush are convenient from Belfast and Derry~Londonderry and a number of bus and train services to the event are available to book online. Local Area Restrictions

To assist with traffic management and reduce congestion in the immediate vicinity of Royal Portrush Golf Club and the Portrush area, additional traffic regulations and parking restrictions will be introduced. These will be enforced by the Police Service of Northern Ireland in order to minimise disruption to local residents and businesses, assist traffic flow and increase safety and security for all road users

From Belfast

During the week of The Open, there will be additional early morning trains from Belfast with ticket pre-booking available online on selected services, along with additional evening services from Portrush and Coleraine.

There will also be enhanced capacity on normal timetabled services to Portrush.

Passengers boarding trains in Belfast will be able to travel direct to Portrush without changing.

From Derry-Londonderry

An hourly service will operate to/from Derry-Londonderry and Coleraine terminating at Coleraine, where a bus service will be available to transport passengers to Portrush.

A rail shuttle bus service will operate from Portrush to Coleraine Station, where passengers will be able to board trains back to Derry-Londonderry.

Goldline Service

Spectators can use the regular 218 Goldline coach service from Belfast or 234 Goldline from Derry-Londonderry to Coleraine with easy transfer to the local 140 bus service to Portrush. Goldline will also operate a weekday timetable on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 July, with services running more regularly than usual at weekends.

Special Belfast - Portrush Coach Service

Additional special coaches will operate between Europa Buscentre in Belfast to Portrush with pre-booking available online.

Local Service 140

During the Championship week, the local bus service between Coleraine, Portrush and Portstewart (140 service) will operate at a 10-minute frequency to facilitate passenger flows to/from The Open. This service will stop at major caravan sites along the route to/from Portrush and will also connect with onward journeys to Belfast and Derry-Londonderry. The set down and pick up stops in Dunluce Ave will be suspended with a temporary stop being put in place on Sandhill Drive.

Local Service 402

The coastal bus service from Ballycastle (402 service) will operate at a 30-minute frequency during the week of the Championship and the service will be extended to operate earlier in the morning and later in the evening to accommodate spectators travelling to/from The Open. Due to access restrictions on Dunluce Road, this service will not operate via Portrush or Dunluce Castle but will travel from Bushmills directly to Coleraine Buscentre, where passengers will be able to transfer to the 140 service to Portrush.

By Road

The Open

There will be no public car parking at Royal Portrush Golf Club or in the immediate area. All spectator parking will be located at The Open Park & Ride facilities.

Spectators choosing to travel to the event by car or motorcycle will be directed to The Open Park & Ride sites by Variable Messaging Signs (VMS) and specific event signs provided by The AA.

Spectators are advised to turn off their satellite navigation systems and follow the appropriate signage.

Directions

From the South East (Belfast)

Follow the M2 towards Antrim. Take the A26 to Ballymena and follow the M2/A26 towards Coleraine/Portrush. On approach to Coleraine, follow signs for The Open Park & Ride.

From the South West (Derry-Londonderry)

Follow the A2 towards Limavady.Take the A37 then continue on the A29 towards Coleraine/Portrush. On approach to Coleraine, follow signs for The Open Park & Ride.

From the South (Armagh/Mid Ulster)

Follow the A29 towards Coleraine/Portrush. On approach to Coleraine, follow signs for The Open Park & Ride.

From the North East (Ballycastle)

Follow the A2 from Ballycastle to Bushmills. Continue on the A2 and on approach to Portrush follow signs for The Open Park & Ride

Taxi Pick-Up and Drop-Off Point

There will be a designed taxi rank off Sandhill Drive in operation from 14-21 July
