Castledawson: teenage girl dies after being rescued from river

A teenage girl has died in hospital after being rescued from a river in Co Londonderry.

It is understood the girl was taken by emergency services from the Moyola River in Castledawson yesterday (Sunday) morning.

In a statement today, the PSNI said: "Officers attended the scene, together with colleagues from other emergency services, where the female was rescued from the water.

"Sadly she later died in hospital. The death is not being treated as suspicious at this time."
