Suspected pipe bomb sparks security alert
Suspicious object found in north Belfast
A number of homes have been evacuated in north Belfast after a suspected pipe bomb was found.
The object was found in the front garden of a house on Roseleigh Street, in the Cliftonville/Oldpark area.
A PSNI spokeswoman said a number of homes have been evacuated and roads closed due to the security alert.
SDLP councillor Paul McCusker said he understands the device found is a suspected pipe bomb.
He said the incident is the "last thing'' that people in the area want or need.
"Residents in the Roseleigh street area of the city have been evacuated from their homes following the discovery of a pipe bomb-type device in the front garden of a house,'' he said.
"Sacred Heart Parish Centre in Glenview Street has been opened for those affected as an emergency rest centre.
"I will be liaising with senior police to ensure that the area is made safe as soon as possible and residents can return to their homes.
"This is the last thing that people in this part of our city want or need."
