Two filling stations have fallen victim to ‘ram-raid’ style burglaries in the Newry area.

It’s thought the break-ins on the Forkhill and Dublin Roads took place sometime between 1am and 1.15am this morning (Tuesday). An office on Edward Street was also targeted.

Detectives say a number of items including vehicles, money and tobacco products have been reported stolen.

Detective Inspector Darren Handley said: "We are at a very early stage of our investigation and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity at Forkhill Road, Dublin Road or Edward Street or anyone with any information which could assist us with our enquiries to call detectives at Ardmore on 101, quoting reference 135 27/10/20.”

Local Sinn Fein Councillor Rosin Mulgrew said the "wanton destruction and criminality" has no place in our society.

“Businesses are facing unprecedented hardship at the minute and have worked with and supported their communities throughout the pandemic. There can be no excuses made for those responsible,” she added.
