A number of shots were fired at the man as he was out walking in the Ballysillan/Tynedale Drive area at around 8.10pm.

One last shot was fired, before the gunman fled the scene.

Sources indicate it may be linked to an older and ongoing feud within the UDA.

The shooting incident comes just a day after the Loyalist Community Council issued a statement claiming it would expel any member involved in criminal activity.

There were no injuries as a result of the incident, but children were reportedly playing in the street at the time.

Detectives wish to speak to anyone who saw a tall man in his 30s or 40s who was apparently spotted nearby, dressed in a dark coat with his hood up and carrying a bag.

He is believed to have left the area in a car.

Police are also investigating a possible link between the shooting and a black Vauxhall Vectra that was found burned out on the Old Westland Road a short time later
