Man attacked during aggravated burglary in Co Down suffers injuries

A man aged in his 40s was taken to hospital in an ambulance for injuries to his upper body, and a serious wound to his foot, following an aggravated burglary in Newry.

Police say it was reported the man was confronted in the property by two unknown men who entered his bedroom, and attacked him with a long blunt object.
Detective Sergeant Stewart said: “Police received a report on Friday, 7th February at approximately 9.10pm of an assault inside a house in the Edencrieve area of the city.
“On officers’ arrival a man aged in his 40s was located with injuries to his upper body, and a serious laceration to his foot.
“It was reported he was confronted in the property by two unknown men who entered his bedroom, and subsequently attacked him with a long blunt object.
“The suspects fled downstairs and out the back of the house on foot. They are described as being aged in their early 20s, of slim build and were wearing dark-clothing with snoods.
“Medical treatment was provided to the man for his injuries, and he was taken onward to hospital by colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service.
“Enquiries are continuing, and we are keen to hear from anyone who may have CCTV, dash-cam or other footage of the area. Please phone us on 101, quoting reference number 1728 07/02/25.”
