NI records hottest day of the year so far as heatwave strikes

Northern Ireland has recorded its hottest day of the year, with temperatures soaring above 30C in some areas.

The Met Office said that by 4pm, a temperature of 30.5C had been recorded in Armagh, and 30.4C in Derrylin in Co Fermanagh.

Temperatures in Phoenix Park in Dublin have broken records also today, hitting 33°C.

The highest temperature EVER recorded in Northern Ireland was 31.3C in Castlederg Co. Tyrone just last year, on July 21st.

Wednesday: Wednesday will be quite a cloudy day, although a few sunny spells may break through at times. Some drizzle possible under the thickest cloud.

Outlook for Thursday - Friday: Sunshine on Thursday morning, but thick cloud and light rain likely in the afternoon. Friday will start cloudy with spells of light rain or drizzle in places, but it will turn drier in the afternoon with sunny spells developing.
