Natural connections photography competition receives over 1300 entries
Now it's time to pick a favourite
Working with Translink, Belfast photographic gallery, Belfast Exposed, launched a competition to capture the ‘Natural Connections’ which have sustained, surrounded and supported people since lockdown first began on March 23, 2020.
A staggering 1364 entries have been submitted which closed on Earth Day. Some were captured on professional cameras, others simply on smart phones.
All entries will now be shortlisted and judged by an expert panel. The panel includes Professor Siobhan O’Neill, Interim Mental Health Champion, Heather McLachlan, National Trust Director for Northern Ireland, Gordon Milligan, Translink Deputy CEO and Deirdre Robb, Belfast Exposed CEO.
Commenting on the response to the competition Chief Executive of Belfast Exposed, Deirdre Robb, said: “Since we launched Natural Connections, the public response on a daily basis has been phenomenal, and the hundreds of images entered into the competition are stunning.”
“They have really captured the importance of nature in our lives reflecting the value of this connection.”
Gordon Milligan, Translink Group Deputy Chief Executive, added: “We have been really impressed by the public reaction to this competition, and the richness of the images and memories captured.”
“Our partnership with Belfast Exposed is a unique opportunity to reflect, boost respect for the power of nature and the need for climate action to build a brighter and more sustainable future. It also forms part of our efforts to support COP26, the UN Climate Change Conference, taking place this Autumn.”
Belfast Exposed will announce the six finalists who will receive a high-quality print of their photograph, and one overall winner who will win a £200 voucher from WEX photo, a £100 Belfast Exposed gift voucher, and a Translink iLink Card.
Translink continue to deliver essential services throughout the pandemic providing a vital link between urban and rural communities.
An exhibition of the top entries for ‘Natural Connections’ will be held online and then later in the year at Belfast Exposed, in line with Covid 19 restrictions.
