MOURNES: Gorse fire at Bloody Bridge
Firefighters are at the scene
Last updated 24th Mar 2022
Six fire appliances are at the scene of a gorse fire on Bloody Bridge, Newcastle.
A spokesperson from NIFRS said, “Firefighters are working hard to extinguish the fire using beaters and knapsack sprayers.”
“NIFRS are being supported at the incident by partner agencies Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) and Mourne Heritage Trust.”
“The incident is ongoing and the public is advised to avoid the area.”
Firefighters have been at the Mourne Mountains in recent days dealing with a series of gorse fires.
A statement last night said, "“ Firefighters have responded to a number of wildfires, including two significant ones in the Mourne Mountains. At the height of both of these incidents 6 Appliances and over 30 personnel were in attendance at each incident."
“Our Firefighters have not only worked really hard when responding to these incidents but have also continued to provide cover and respond to incidents across the wider Mournes area. These incidents do put an additional strain on our resources and therefore we are asking for the public to support us by not starting fires in the countryside.”
