Storm Doris has officially been named and is expected to bring strong winds, rain and snow to parts of higher ground across Northern Ireland.

A Met Office Yellow warning for wind and rain has been issued for Wednesday night and into Thursday when rainfall totals could reach 20-30 mm.

Chief Meteorologist Steve Willington said: “We have named Storm Doris as we expect winds of up to 80mph to cause disruption across some central and northern parts of the UK. Currently the most likely track of the low pressure system is across Northern Ireland. It will be a very unsettled day of weather so make sure you keep up to date with your local forecast and any weather warnings for your area.”

Here, gusts of 50-60 mph are expected widely with isolated gusts of 65 mph in exposed coastal areas.

There is also a risk of snow to lower levels for a time.

Disruption is possible to road, air and ferry transport, whilst localised power interruptions are possible.

The warning is valid from 10pm tonight lasting through to lunchtime Thursday.
