Thunderstorms and heavy showers could batter much of Northern Ireland later today, the Met Office has said.

Forecasters have issued a yellow severe weather warning as torrential rain is likely to develop during Tuesday afternoon across counties Fermanagh, Tyrone, Derry~Londonderry, Armagh, Antrim & Down.

"Scattered showers will become heavy, accompanied by hail and thunder on Tuesday afternoon and early evening, before becoming isolated later. 10-20mm of rain may fall within an hour, and perhaps 30mm in several hours in a few places."

The Met Office's weather warning comes into effect from 12:00 on Tuesday lasting through until 21:00.

"There is a good chance driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water and/or hail, leading to longer journey times by car and bus"

"Delays to train services are possible"

"Some short term loss of power and other services is likely"

Unfortunately there isn't any good news on the horizon anytime soon as an unseasonably deep area of low pressure is heading towards us for the end of the week.

We are being told to expect further heavy rain, strong winds and a risk of gales in places this weekend.
