Man due in court charged following major PSNI data breach
He's accused of possessing documents likely to be useful to terrorists
A man is due in court in Coleraine today charged with possessing documents likely to be useful to terrorists.
It comes in the wake of a PSNI data breach which saw the details of around 10,000 officers and staff mistakenly posted online.
A PSNI statement said, “A 50 year old man has been charged with Possessing documents or records likely to be useful to terrorists and Possession of articles for use in terrorism.”
“He is due to appear at Coleraine Magistrates Court on Monday 21st August. As is normal procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.”
Meanwhile another policing board meeting will take place tomorrow, where the Chief Constable will get an update on the latest developments.
Further separate data breaches have since come to light, including the theft of a police laptop, radio, and document from a car Newtownabbey, and the loss of a PSNI laptop and notebook which fell from a moving car on the M2 motorway.
A policing board spokesperson said, ““The Northern Ireland Policing Board will hold a follow up meeting on Tuesday 22 August with the Chief Constable to receive an update on issues arising from the 8 August Data Breach and consider any further actions necessary.”
“Members will also have the opportunity to question other data loss incidents that have been reported over the course of the last week.”
