32 year old man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after Co Armagh shooting
It happened earlier this month on the Ballsmill Road
Police have arrested a 32 year old man on suspicion of attempted murder, following a shooting in County Armagh earlier this month.
The gun attack on the Ballsmill Road on Monday the 4th of September left a man in a critical condition.
PSNI Superintendent Norman Haslett, the District Commander said, “The victim was sitting in his car, parked on the Ballsmill Road, waiting for a connecting lift to work. Here, he was approached by a masked person, who fired a number of shots. He was shot in the arm and neck, but somehow managed to drive a short distance before calling for help.”
“This was a shocking and callous act, which has left a man in a critical condition in hospital. It was also a pre-planned and targeted attack on a victim who parked his car here on a regular, daily basis.”
Four other men were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after searches in Crossmaglen yesterday morning (Tues). Police say three of them have now been released (two aged 31, and one aged 58) on bail to allow for further police enquiries.
Meanwhile, the fourth man, aged 35, has been charged with drugs related offences, including possession of a Class C drug and possession of a Class C drug with intent to supply.
He is expected to appear before Newry Magistrates Court later.
Enquiries are continuing, and anyone with any information is asked to contact detectives on 101, quoting reference number 253 of 04/09/23.
