Man (78) dies in Co. Down collision

An elderly pedestrian has died after he was struck by a car in Newcastle.

Geoffrey Cartright was 78 and was from the local area.

The collision happened on South Promenade in the County Down town shortly before 11pm on Thursday.

An 18 year old man was arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit, and dangerous driving causing death - he was later released on bail.
