Linfield brushed aside Institute in Friday night’s Danske Bank Premiership fixture, easing to a 3-0 win at Windsor Park.

Andy Waterworth fired his side into the lead in the first half having been set up by Chris Casement, who got his name on the scoresheet after the break.

Joel Cooper grabbed his first Linfield goal to complete the scoring.

As had been expected, Linfield dominated from the start but failed to convert their control into anything more than half-chances from set pieces.

It took Institute half an hour to carve out a rare opportunity as Aaron Harkin’s free kick found Michael McCrudden in behind the defence, but he volleyed wide.

However, just a minute later Waterworth grabbed the opener, volleying past Gallagher after taking a touch to control Casement’s cross.

In the 58th minute, the Linfield right-back tapped home from 6 yards after connecting with Joel Cooper’s driven cross as the home side put the game to bed.

They then extended their lead in the 66th as Joel Cooper - despite being one of the shortest men on the pitch - connected with Niall Quinn’s free-kick to glance a header into the net to make it three.
