Examining the local ‘pink press’ is proving to be a helpful tool in understanding what life was like for Northern Ireland’s LGBT community before, during and after the decriminalisation of homosexuality here in 1982.

The term means magazines and papers that were made for the community, including the Gay Star, One Magazine, and the Mattachine Review.

Before the internet was accessible to all, the Pink Press was a communication lifetime for gay, lesbian and trans people in NI.

These pamphlets and updates shared information about activism, rights, news, nights outs, the Troubles and more.
