Royal visit: King and Queen spend day three in Banbridge

Hundreds of well-wishers greeted their Majesties

The King and Queen visited Banbridge today (Friday) as they continued their stay in Northern Ireland.

This is the third of engagements for their Majesties and they were greeted by hundreds of people waving flags and carrying bouquets of flowers.

At Banbridge Old Town Hall, King Charles, was met by local businesses and representatives from the community and creative industries, including some of those involved in Games of Thrones as well as staff from Southern Regional College and Total Hockey

Banbridge Old Town Hall is also home to a recently opened Community Advice Centre.

Community Advice Armagh, Banbridge & Craigavon provides free, confidential information and advice to support residents living in the borough.

Before going on a walkabout in Banbridge the Queen was spoke to staff who deliver the services.

At Banbridge Library, Her Majesty saw the services and programmes offered by Libraries Northern Ireland.

Since opening in 1979, the library has been a vital resource for the people of Banbridge - providing access to books, information and a welcoming space for learning and connection.

In the children’s area, The Queen joined a reading of ‘Peanut Gets His Sparkle Back’, by local author Kate Russell, who will also be present.

This concludes a three-day visit to the region, which saw Charles briefed on research into cancer therapies at the Ulster University campus in Coleraine, while Camilla took part in a cookery demonstration at a farm near Limavady with celebrity chef Paula McIntyre.

The monarchs met farmers, artists, acrobats and sea shanty singers during the visit, as well as Northern Ireland Secretary of State Hilary Benn, First Minister Michelle O'Neill and deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly.
