Investigation underway after body of young woman recovered from canal in Co Monaghan

An investigation is underway following the discovery of a young woman's body in a canal in County Monaghan on St Patrick's day morning.

It's understood she was from Northern Ireland.

A statement from Gardaí said, “Gardaí are investigating all the circumstances of a discovery of a body in County Monaghan on Sunday 17th March 2024”

“The body of a woman in her 20s was recovered from the Ulster Canal in Monaghan town at approximately 8:30am. “

“The body was removed from the scene to the mortuary at Our Lady's Hospital, Navan.”

“The post-mortem examination has been carried out, and initial findings have been relayed to investigating Gardaí. The focus of the investigation will now shift towards compiling a file for the Coroner.”
