Heavy flooding causes havoc across Northern Ireland

Heavy rain and thunderstorms have led to intense flooding and disruption in parts of Northern Ireland this afternoon. 

Earlier this week the Met Office issued yellow weather warnings for Friday 6th and Saturday 7th for thunderstorms and heavy rain.

A number of roads have already reported flooding including Cliftonville Road, Ballylesson Road, Berry Street and the A5 Beltany Road.

Road Users are advised to avoid the Oldpark Road and find alternative routes for journeys after heavy rain fall has caused significant damage to the carriageway in a number of places.

Northern Ireland's weekend forecast:

Tonight: Mostly cloudy with showers, heavy at times, continuing through the evening and night. A warm and humid night with light winds. Minimum temperature 14 °C

Saturday: Remaining unsettled with further showers breaking out. Some of the showers will be heavy and possibly thundery by the afternoon. Feeling warm in any afternoon sunshine. Maximum temperature 21 °C

Sunday to Tuesday: Heavy showers continuing into Sunday. Turning somewhat drier on Monday with fewer showers. Tuesday**** should remain mostly dry
