Grieving mother in one punch attack urges people to think twice
A mother who lost her son in a one punch attack is asking people to think twice about the consequences before throwing a punch.
Ann Gamble spoke to Downtown Radio & Cool FM as part of our series Think Twice.
It intends to create awareness of the crime and how much of a ripple effect it can have.
Ann’s Story
Peter Gamble was just 35 years old when he died as a result of one punch to his head.
The father of one lay for 5 hours before an ambulance was called, but he was sadly pronounced dead by ambulance staff.
Ann says to lose a child in any circumstance is awful, but to lose them in this way makes it harder to accept.
She said: “I came down the stairs and I can remember sitting here – the police officer stood over there, and I can’t even remember speaking to him. I was probably numb, shocked, I just couldn’t take it all it, I thought I was still dreaming, that it was all a terrible dream.
“I can’t remember that first day hardly at all. It was as if you were in a dream, you know that it is true but you just can’t accept it.
“It’s just that terrible feeling of loss and you can’t understand why it has happened.”
One of the hardest things Ann has to deal with is wondering what Peter would have made of himself or what he would have become.
“I live with Peter in my mind every day. I sometimes do get very cross when I think about what happened to him.
“He missed out on his daughter’s life, his grandchildren, everything, just because of one man and one punch.”
