It was confirmed last night that proceedings against the Belfast boxer had been lodged at London High Court.
Frampton left Cyclone Promotions and Barry McGuigan in August, bringing to an end a relationship that began in 2009 and secured three titles.
It was after his fight with Andres Gutierrez was cancelled, which was preceded by the Jackal being a pound overweight for the bout.
At the time, both parties wished each other well, but Frampton's lawyer John Finucane confirmed last night that Cyclone had lodged proceedings against his cleint at London High Court.
His statement said Mr Frampton is "deeply disappointed", but that he would not only defend the action, he would be making a counter claim against Cyclone on "a number of grounds."
He says his client is 'confident his reputation and position will be vindicated but would not be making any further comment'.
Meanwhile, in a statement, Cyclone Promotions said: “For some weeks now, Cyclone Promotions has been attempting to mediate a settlement with Carl Frampton and his representatives. This mediation was ended by Carl Frampton’s solicitors when a settlement could not be reached. The Company therefore lodged a claim at the High Court against Carl Frampton relating to his breach of the promotional contract entered into with Cyclone Promotions.
Cyclone Promotions is merely seeking a fair and equitable resolution to this contract dispute with Carl Frampton. The courts will now decide on the matter and since our claim marks the start of that process, it will therefore not be appropriate to make any further statement at this time."
