FM: Meghan is 'only human'
First Minister talks about life in the public eye after explosive interview
Arlene Foster is urging online trolls to stop after an interview with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex aired in the UK.
Prince Harry and Meghan spoke to Oprah Winfrey about the pressures of life as Senior Royals.
The interview was broadcast on UK screens on Monday.
Speaking exclusively to Downtown Cool FM to mark International Woman's Day, Arlene Foster said she can relate to some of the challenges Meghan faced as a woman in the public eye:
"People need to recognise that she (Meghan) is a mother, she is a wife, she has an ordinary life like you and I have.
"She is obviously in a very privileged position but at the same time she is a human being."
Mrs Foster revealed she has struggled with online abuse in the past:
"I've had it on numerous occasions, some of it has been very difficult to deal with and some very untrue things have been said about me as I've gone through my political life.
"You do get strength from the fact that it's a load of nonsense and it's not true but when people start to believe that it's true, that's when it becomes a really difficult point.
"I would say to anybody who's thinking about trolling the Duchess of Sussex, the Duchess of Cambridge or indeed anybody connected with the royal family after tonight just don't.
"Go and read a book, go and listen to some music, do something else that's more profitable than sending hate online."
