The shooting took place in the Rossnagalliagh area of the city just after 12.20am

Detective Inspector Stephanie Finlay said the occupants were left “shocked”.

And she added: “Damage was caused to a vehicle parked outside the property and the living room window was smashed during the incident.

“Our enquiries are continuing and I would appeal to anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area around the time of the incident to contact detectives on the non-emergency number 101.”

Meanwhile, an earlier shooting in Derry left a 60-year-old man in hospital.

It followed a gang of masked men forcing their way into a house in the Ballymagroaty area of Derry – and forcing the man to the ground before opening fire.
