Fire on board vessel at Harland & Wolff shipyard extinguished
More than 50 firefighters were in attendance yesterday in Belfast
A fire on board a vessel at Belfast Harbour Estate yesterday evening has been put out.
At the height of the incident more than 50 firefighters were in attendance at Harland and Wolff shipyard.
We're told the cause of the fire was accidental and that no-one was injured.
A NIFRS Spokesperson said, “NIFRS responded to a small fire on-board a vessel located in a Harland & Wolff dry dock within Belfast Harbour Estate.”
“4 NIFRS Pumping Appliances with 1 Aerial, 1 Foam Appliance, a Specialist Rescue Team and a Marine Team plus a number of Supervisory Officers attended the incident – a total of approximately 50 firefighters.”
“NIFRS worked closely with Harland & Wolff throughout the incident, committing NIFRS Firefighters with breathing apparatus and water jets to extinguish the fire.”
“The fire occurred in a tank within the vessel that was being worked on by a shipyard subcontractor and the cause has been determined as being accidental.”
“All crew on-board the vessel were evacuated safely with no reported injuries.”
Harland and Wolff has thanked firefighters involved in extinguishing the blaze.
