Belfast girl Emer McKee broke her own world 5km record for a 12-year-old for the second time yesterday (Sunday) in Lisburn.

She managed to shave 13 seconds off her time during the parkrun at Down Royal Racecourse.

The Willowfield Harrier finished the race in just 16 minutes and 27 seconds.

It is after she smashed the world's best time by a 12-year-old in a 5km road race at the same venue in April with a race time of 16 minutes and 40 seconds.

After her performance two months ago, Emer explained her success by saying that "I just try to run as fast as I can".

After starting in the sport in parkruns, the youngster joined the Willowfield club at the age of nine.
