Cigs and cash among haul seized by PSNI probing organised criminality
More than 50,000 contraband cigarettes and around £70,000 in cash have been seized by police, probing organised criminality involving loyalist paramilitaries.
Detectives from the Criminal Investigation Branch carried out a number of searches in Belfast and North Down in conjunction with HMRC.
They also recovered 7.5 kilos of rolled tobacco and a number of high value items including two vehicles.
A PSNI spokesman said: “This is a demonstration of our determination to tackle organised crime and those that gain from it. I would appeal for anyone with information regarding criminality by paramilitary organisations to contact police on 101. Information can also be given anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
Two men aged 34 and 29 were arrested at the time but have since been released on police bail
